I'd see if you could tap into the sound board. Since the DVX has XLR input, I'd probably look at a RODE M3. It's big to put on the camera, but for $200, it would work nicely, on a stand would be better. Do a search on our site for M3 and use the coupon code "take5" for a discount.

It depends on if you're shooting indoors or outdoors and what camera you are using. RODE SVM works good indoors and outdoors if your camera only has 1/8" miniplug input. The XLR based NTG-2 works best outdoors and you may need a BeachTek XLR adapter. The RODE NT3 hypercardiod works better indoors if your camera has XLR.

You might want to look at getting a BeachTek or JuicedLink XLR audio adapter for two inputs. You'll need a receiver for each transmitter. It is a 1:1 ratio unless you look at something like the Big Ole Audio Technical 1800 dual channel.

Is the bodypack transmitter turned off? Is Pilot tone off? Are the units a few feet away from each other? Did you perform an Autoscan? Also try testing with a second XLR mic and fresh batteries.

Thanks for the video... i was able to get the units working with a lav mic, but then i tried using the plug on transmitter (skp100) with a sennheiser md42 handheld mic and got squealing sound with my voice faintly in the background. Do you have any idea what might be the issue? Also I'm recording on to a small voice recorder.

The advice is good. Out of the box the mic itself was clipping. We had to reduce the sensitivity on the transmitter to -30 after testing the defaults with two different talent. In the end -30 resulted in clean sound with no clipping. NOTE: it was not clipping at the camera, it was clipping in the units themselves.

It's actually cheap if you're shooting a lot and need to set-up fast. Most people have to waste a lot of important time lighting evenly - not to mention the cost of the light, the heat, the electricity. Then theres the savings in post production with a perfect key to work with.

yes, but those cameras don't have an accessory shoe, so you'd have to buy an adapter to attatch it to your camera. a zr camera would look really funny with that big mic attatched to it. the mic is nearly 2x bigger than the camera!! lol.

I would say go with the Videomic and not the stereo mic. If you're going to shoot films, you're going to want your vocal tracks in mono, this is the standard. Then what you can do, with your camcorders on board mic you can record ambient sounds and mix them in your video editor.

I'm thinking about buying the rode videomic or the stereo version, which do you recommend ? I'm a film student and i'm basically gonna use it to shoot movies. I know the stereo version picks up more of the sound around you, but what i'm wondering is, what do filmmakers usually take, shotgun or stereo mics ?

I've been looking for microphones all day for my Sony HC96. I tried the top mount ECM HST1 and is just isn't any improvement. I'm returning it. I'm trying to find a good mic to pick up my Hammond & assoc. equipment. I found many reviews of this mic...looks good. This review nails it! Will give it a try!

Bad surprise! The Camcorder needs a switch from mic to line input because the level is so high. Only in the manual you get this information, after you bought one. I had a very distorted Sound while recording a concert. Now i built in a small poti and it works fine. For this reason it is not good for consumer camcorders.

i have this mic..... and wish i saved the mony @ £139:99 i built one better for £29.00. which out performs the rode by a long shot.. i used it in windy conditions with the dead cat cover but it was way too windy for that job. to see any of my vids type in actionman1966 and have a listen to a cheap home made mic .. oh gd vid tho and each to there own ..

Im going to take the microphone back today and do more research on how to get clear voice recording for interviews without background interference. Does anyone no of a mic within £100-150 price range ?
