Amen brother. I just returned from WV and saw all this stuff with my own eyes. Most of the people I talked to were PRO COAL, came from mining backgrounds, and were everyday folks, not environmentalists. However, they were against MTR because of its effect on their health! I saw an elementary school across the street from a coal plant. I don't care what your beliefs are about energy, but that's never right.
By: WV24985. on 05 Nov 08, 00:12:28
CoalBlackRain...I hope you dont use electricity. If you do, it comes from our coal, and you are a hypocrite. West Virginia needs these jobs more than we need more mountains. Have you actually looked at the landscape...We are ALL mountain. We give a little (in comparison to the whole), to gain electricity for over 50% of this whole country's homes and businesses. Common sense.
By: WV24985. on 05 Nov 08, 00:04:13
Coal in West Virginia is as strong as it's ever been. At least 50% of America's power, so many more plants and factories all over the country burn coal to run. I am proud to be a West Virginia coal miner. I wish the mountain huggers would leave us alone, and let us get the coal that a great percentage of you reading this use for power and heat...These are necessities.
By: MTB710. on 04 Nov 08, 22:54:44
Coal in America is declining and will soon be completely over as some of you stated. In places like China though, Coal produces at least 90% of their energy.
By: surfaceblaster08. on 03 Nov 08, 00:20:54
mining didnt cause that flood! larry gibson used to get a royality check from the mines they cut him off ,now he loves trees. G D TREEHUGGERS!GET A LIFE

I don't care if you think I'm stupid. I live off the grid, fyi, I don't want any fuel that has to do with MTR. Watch the video again. They are DESTROYING West Virginia. Devastating the watershed is like selling your child's kidneys so you can go to Disneyland-- who looks stupid now? Coal is OVER
By: Joshuapwnzu1516. on 31 Oct 08, 14:12:21
You're making yourself look very stupid by chanting "coal is over" again and again....No matter what the politicians say, coal isn't over, coal can't be over. There is no other alternative to produce as much power and as cheap other than nuclear and no one wants to live next to a reactor. CBR, if you're against this practice maybe you should begin now and turn your PC off, try to save something, oh and don't turn your lights on. Fire in the hole!
By: CoalBlackRain. on 31 Oct 08, 13:18:13
a mantra is something repeated with the mind and the mouth to create change-- nonviolently. Mantra: Coal is OVER MTR is Wrong, and it has to end. It has to stop. Coal is Over Coal is OVER Coal is OVER there is no future with coal therefore; Coal is OVER
By: Joshuapwnzu1516. on 31 Oct 08, 07:46:14
Coal is far from over. Coal alone produces 50% of electric for America. Its cheap easy to find, and we got lots of it, and thats all big business cares about. You should know by now that we the people don't run America, big business does.
By: polidocproductions. on 26 Oct 08, 16:34:52
CONSERVE is my mantra as well as stopping MTR - We could start instituting rolling brown-out nights. Provide special sanctions for night-time businesses. Consider a minimal tax for each permanent light fixture in housing and devlepment. Require environmentally sound architectural practices. Wear more sweaters.
By: CoalBlackRain. on 26 Oct 08, 16:22:16
Mantra: Coal is OVER this is a nonviolent response to a very violent situation. I wouldn't mind waging war against the CEO's and people who are doing this, but after all it's you and me. Coal is over. coal is over.
By: CoalBlackRain. on 26 Oct 08, 16:19:57
Not only that, but the state of West Virginia has incident after incident of when miners tried to unite against the coal companies and them, their families, and even the law enforcement has been KILLED. the national Guard even dropped bombs-- the money trail is long and broad and it may have even reached the Supreme Court of the United States; it's sure obvious that King Coal owns the government in West Virginia-- they pay for the officials that can appoint, filling more slots economically.

I have just come from an aerial tour of a vicinity close to the capitol. Hidden from view by a ridge of trees, these grey plateaus are painfully in touch with people, not to mention animales. to xocaseyrayox - omg - it takes 19 heavy machine workers to blow up a mountain compared to the hundreds of miners it used to take. the real issue is the need to move away from coal burning altogether. It's the greatest pollutant in the world!
By: Pimpmastahanhduece. on 22 Sep 08, 10:03:43
im not against mining or explosives, but for God's sake people, find a better way of disposing of debris.

I live in Oregon & had NOT even heard of this! Hurray for youtube! THANK YOU for getting this on here! I shall be telling people about it, but my voice alone isn't enough by far. Please try to get National geographic & some major news networks to run some specials about it! I will be contacting any places I can find to protest this unjustifuied destruction of America! What good is energy if part the country is MISSING?
By: MisterChimpy. on 08 Sep 08, 13:28:37
Nice choice you seem to give people. Rape the land or freeze... as if there's no intelligent middle ground, moron.
By: eng1225. on 31 Aug 08, 22:14:56
I doubt youenze have windmills in your yard or solar panels on your houses. Not until you turn you heaters down and your lights off will the demand of coal go down. You should be thankful for MTR so you won't freeze in the dark.
By: formermountainboy19. on 17 Aug 08, 20:52:33
Great post. The vast majority of people who "support" this type of mining work in the industry, and are constantly fed lies about how we cannot make it without coal. Such BS.
By: 33muffin. on 15 Aug 08, 12:24:37
Excellent video. The cunning and money that must go into the lobbying effort to keep this out of politics and the media is so incredible as to be immoral. Sure, we all benefit in a small way from cheap electricity, but it comparesto Middle Eastern oil barrons getting wealthy while citizens get very little. Also, those who think this is OK are buying the propaganda of mining companies - don't let yourself be manipulated. Clean water and air, wildlife, and beautiful place are priceless.

No one, including the MSHA or OSM really knows the exact number of acres that have been surfaced mined. They dont keep those stats, but most estimates say that 14 million acres of land has been mined by MTR, and only 1-5% of that is being currently used for devolpmental purposes. That kinda kills the whole "we need flat land" argument that the coal industry gives. My drinking water will soon come from Carr Creek lake, which is on the 303d list of polluted lakes in Ky, thanks to MTR sites.
By: formermountainboy19. on 11 Aug 08, 22:39:31
By reading your post I don't think you have the right to call anyone retarded! You need to go back to school and learn how to construct a sentence. I know this wont get through to you, because facts don't work in most arguments, but I'll try anyways. Since MTR became popular in the 1970's, mining jobs have decreased by 46% in Appalachia. And It is destroying our way of life by polluting our streams and wells, burying valleys, and taking away the beauty in this area.
By: x0caseyrae0x. on 10 Aug 08, 05:35:03
hmmm secrets???lol are you stupid?? yeahh i think you definately aree..and why all of the sudden do you jump up and decide thaty this is new?? i mean honestly are you kidding me??and umm ohh yeahh its takin jobs away from coal miners??hmm thats funny because if you think about it its actually giving them more because they still mine underground, and then with MTR you have a powder crew, and rock trucks and loaders and high wall miners, coal truck drivers, and so much more, so um check ur facts!
By: x0caseyrae0x. on 10 Aug 08, 05:28:48
how did this destroy your way of life?? the people doin this is their way of life. you people are retarded. if god didnt want us to mine the coal then he wouldnt have put it into the mountain for us to mine. these hard workers get up at 3:00 in the morning to keep your power on and your heat on for in the winter time. if you have a problem with this then turn off your lights & freeze to death in the winter. coal miners work to keep food on their family's tables & you want to take that away?? w/e
By: formermountainboy19. on 07 Aug 08, 00:49:51
What is making west Virginia look bad, just like Ky (where I live), is blasting the mountains away. I have nothing against the miners, most of my family work in the coal industry, but I hate MTR. My community has been ravaged by MTR, polluted streams, busted roads from overloaded trucks, and my well water, which was once clean, is now completely orange, due to the mercury, and sulfur leaking into from the mine behind my house. Ive argued facts on MTR too long, no one seems to care.
