Perhaps the end of the movie could be Mr. Nimoy and yourself (as aged Spock and Kirk) reminiscing aboard the Enterprise A before the events of 'Star Trek: Generations'. I thought Kirk's death in Generations was completely lame, totally anticlimactic, and a real bone-headed mistake. His character deserved far better than that! There is no way to bring Kirk back in the new movie without bringing the focus all on Shatner's Kirk instead of the intended storyline of the young Kirk. As much as I hate to say it, the original Kirk is dead, and I don't see any hope of ever bringing him back. At least he lives on in reruns, and in a new prequel.

I haven't seen Generations in quite awhile, but I do remember that Picard made Guinan bring him back in time before Tolian Soran and himself went into the Nexus. Kirk went with Picard to stop Soran and Kirk died. I'm almost certain that Picard and Kirk weren't in the Nexus when James died.

I hope one day to see a new star trek series, because it was one of the few things that brought each generation together. THe hope for a brighter future kept us all as one, and there is no better veiw point then when the captians we grew up with meet the captians our parents grew up with. It comes to show us that no matter what era, no matter what race, we are all one in the same.

You People have taken musical videos away that I love... This chic had this star trek Enterprise vid where she actually elongated the opening sequence to fit the entire song! I watched this one continuously for more then a fucking year! Allen Shepard, and my heroes! You Get A Life! That was part of mine!

The wing like assembly that leads to the engines was actually introduced by Matt Jefferies (Creater of the Enterprise)but it didn't make it into the earlier design of the Telivision Model. Also, this model you see here was sold a few years back at auction when most Star Trek stuff was moved out of the old Paramount Studios

I really want to like this movie. Watch any 5-10 minute section from the move and it's awesome. The problem is that two hours worth is mind-numbing. I think the director's edition in 2001 helped somewhat, but ultimalety the pace of the movie seems far too leisurely. A shame, as clearly a lot of thought and care went into the film.

Interesting note here..as the new ENTERPRISE has been unvieled..JJ abrams had specifically refered to THIS SCENE as inspiration..that it showed how real and how utterly massive the Enterprise COULD be. Apparently the introduction of the new Enterprise on film will be very similiar to this classic scene. This was one of the best parts of TMP. Lets hope the new TREK reaches for the same standard.

I can't understand why STAR TREK fans hate this movie so much. It's a beautiful, moving, work of art and the lone example of hardcore scifi in the soft scifi STAR TREK universe to boot. And the devine music by the late great Jerry Goldsmith... need I say more?

The impression I always got from seeing this scene in the movies in '79 and the fantastic score, one of the best ever by Goldsmith perhaps only surpassed by his score for "The Blue Max" that this was "Holy Ground". The Enterprise in it's most majestic form, and the sense of pride expressed by Kirk.

you're wrong. You're getting your information from a William Shatner book. For those not privy, Shatner wrote that the planet that V'ger came into contact with that gave it sentient life was the Borg homeworld. Finding it a kindred spirit, they sent it back towards Earth so it could find its creator. There was nothing considered canon about any of it though

Yes Jerry Did a great job, BUT still Star Trek:The Motion Picture is about as exciting as watching grass grow. IT was so damn slow and boring and when the ship finally go to it's desstination, there was NOTHING for us to see. EVEN the directors cut which is better, cannot save us from the rentless idiotic boring screenplay. Star Trek 2 got it, it is about Humans and Human feelings and friendship. NOT this mess.

There are no TOS effects put into the film, I assure you of that. They created intermediate sounds for the DC, and pulled some from TWOK to try and sound like a go-between. Needless to say I am not a fan of the DC.

I liked the ship in Star Trek Next Generation better, it has the holodeck. I think I would go crazy on this ship alone because it looks so bland, has no carpets, no decoration, not even a greenhouse.
