The story is based on an actual occurance...one morning in London, after a snowfall, strange footprints were found that went from ground to rooftops, across the rooftops, then back down to the ground again, as if the maker of the footprints could fly, or jump effortlessly between buildings, or from the ground to the rooftops. The source wsa never found, but the never-seen footprint maker was dubbed "Spring-Heeled Jack" in the newspapers.

I was really freaked as a kid when I first read about the 'original' early 19th century creepy dude, Spring Heel Jack, who allegedly terrorised the good (and not so good) citizens of urban and rural Merry Olde Yengland for around 70 years... used to make me hide under the covers at the mere thought of it. Me personally, I love Stravinsky's work because to me it is of roller coaster of emotion, darkness, and nightmare. Every time I hear the Rite Of Spring, I feel like I'm in a nightmare of the insane dancing. I can also imagine the tribal dances that he potrayed the Rite of Spring to be. Just Amazing. This video is the exact portrait of what I see when I listen to the Rite Of Spring. The Best Version Cover of the Rite of Spring is from 1997 by Eiji Oue and the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra.

indeed, the choreographer was Diaghilev from the Rallet Russe, and apparently the reaction was "just what he had wanted." correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe diaghilev aslo worked with stravinsky in Petrushka as well as the Firebird Suite. One could definitely see the beginnings of Stravinsky's defining moments of altering musical composition in his first works, namely the firebird suite. though the rite of spring is most definitely the turn of the times.

I like the weird music of Stravinsky to a point, but remember when he was asked on TV 44 years ago...he said, I do not like the music of Richard Strauss......his main competitor for so many years......no surprise, Strauss was far more popular and admired than Stravinsky and outshined him, then and now....

Some of the audience began to catcall due to the radical choreography, and then a debate between the proponents/opponents of the piece got heated up to the point where someone threw a punch, and then mob mentality ensued as a fistfight turned into an all-out riot. The dresses were definitely homemade as most clothes were back then. The dresses are one of my three favorite things about this movie, especially the lavender gingham Julie Newmyer wears at the barn dance. Siiigh...I wish fuller skirts and dresses would come back in style.

i think classical music played on an electric guitar is very intricate if you look at yngwie malmsteen hes stuff is extremely diffuclt to play but these guys win because of there musical training alot of neoclassical guitarists teach themselves which is hard but these guys win

mutter is not as good a perlman, true, but shes pretty damn good. and regarding her wide vibrato and so called excessive trilling, vivaldi was trying emulate the noise made by birds in spring time. so while i wouldnt normally approve of such a wide vibrato, i do in this piece, for the stated reason.

Its a harpsichord, it makes that metallic shaky sound, its similar to a piano except the strings are plucked not hit. It was in use before the invention of the clavier (similar to a harpsichord) and the pianoforte and fortepiano (similar to the harpsichord and clavier but the strings are hit instead), eventually the pianoforte became the more commonly used instrument and has only experienced minor adjustments for improvement until it has become the modern pianoforte (known as the piano)

i think people learning classical stuff the electric guitar is amazingly cool, not all of them can play the violin but still find the four seasons or whatever amazing, so they put it into a modern context. i think it also makes modern musicians who don't understand classical music begin to appreciate it. as well. also i think that the way she did the trills and vibrato gives it life in her own way, but thats my general comment not me trying to argue with you.
