I think it's a difference of opinion, not a lack of honesty. Let the people who made bad decisions live with the consequences rather than sticking the more prudent people with the bill. Letting the malinvestments clear out of the system helps it recover sooner. The financial system cannot defend itself from its own bad decision making though. The gold standard cannot prevent panics/depressions. However it does protect against inflation. I would rather suffer mini depressions then have the gold standard lifted and our endless money printing to flow over into the world economy and then suffer one worldwide massive collapse. No, it was due to government policy. Markets correct prices and things go back to normal. The reason we're in the situation we're in now is because the government is too involved in banking via the fed. Get rid of the fed and even though it would be a tough adjustment, it woudln't be nearly as bad as how the government is destroying the dollar. You're going against all common sense if you really think $700billion bailouts, even with the best intentions, are going to do any good - they won't.

A financial collapse would cause a severe monetary contraction due to the massive liquidation of loans. FAA requires ALL aerial vehicles be marked. These planes aren't. They fly back and forth over "non" airliner traffic areas, spewing thick "contrails" that slowly spread out. For the last twenty years or more USA economic growth has been solely due to increased lending. Our economic growth hasn't been due to increased salaries, exports, low unemployment, new job creation, new business startups, or growth of the old ones. It's been artificially inflated because of credit. A sound economy can't have credit as the foundation for it's growth, eventually it will collapse, and it did and has. The problem is that people have mistaken capitalism for a form of government. It is just an ecconomic system and only works when government imposes controls to rein it in. Most of our GDP is from activities that do not produce goods, and our industrial base is disappearing so that only the money lenders are making money. Then they whine about being taxed because it "reduces their ability to create wealth." Until the decline of our industrial base is addrressed, things will not get better.

No i know, what i meant by "I'll take obama though" is, im in general satisfied with Obama becoming president. I think an election between Mike Gravel (D) and ron paul (R) would have been amazing. But instead it was between Obama and mccain.
