It's very demoralizing and inspirational at the same time; making you fear for the future of capitalism while simultaneously uplifting your own sense of self-worth and ambition. The reason why the Soviet Union was "beaten down" as you put it was due to it's economy collapsing on itself, the defecting satellites territories, and it's failed invasion of Afghanistan. If anything, WW2 reinvigorated the Soviet economy due to the response of Russian industrialism. Stalin did indeed smooth over the travesties of the war for the "honor of Mother Russia", but if the Soviet Union was beaten down in WW2, why did the US combat it politically until at least Reagan?

The economy going down was started with Carter. Then it got a little better. Then Reagan's "trickle down effect" and "deregulation for the spirit of free market" hit us hard. And the policy instituted of giving tax breaks to jobs that outsource overseas didn't help much.
