Hey! Nice of someone to share some joy. I'll look for the book myself now... I coach chess at my kids' school. I start the session with "two minutes of bla--blah" which is my way to say "listen, here is a tip and let's work on this today". I go around the room, encourage, show them to be defensive as well as offensive, make them play with pawns only, or without pawns, make them see how it can be applied to their everyday life (observing, planning, etc.).

I saw it last night & preferred both dance pieces. Everyone I was with seemed to prefer 'Rite of Spring' also! She wasn't dancing unfortunetly, but i had the pleasure to know that in the interval she was sat directly 2 rows behind us!!!! ^.^. Wow. And when the appeared on stage to take a final bow with the 'Rite of Spring' cast. The crowd (including myself) went insane!! She's a genius!!! =]

only one of the pieces used in cafe muller is from purcell's dido and aeneas - it's called dido's lament. the other pieces are not from the opera.

While I didn't find the second part of this video to be quite my thing (the part with the Purcell), I found the first part to be incredibly powerful. Very nice.

I think it was because Wynton and the drummer come in bang with a hit that Paul might have been surprised at. it was so quick and hip when they came in, and not in the "expected" place perhaps.

They don't memorize each note. They're very aware of the chords that they are playing and know the scales and transitions from chord to chord. Add to that an ability to create new melodies from the chords and of course to do all that while "swinging" and you've got jazz!
