I'd suggest that the reality of music has more potential for bringing the different peoples of the world together than does the reality of race. haha the image I kept from this was really bad but now that I listen to it many years later I think it'S really hilarious and unpretentious, just a bit too 'new age'. But I like the pop/ adult contemporary vibe in the beginning I think it's hilarious, it's like a 'hippie Georges Michael'. and the jazzy/hyper licks are just wacky and hilarious. it's excellent. thumbs up! I've been listening to the music from all over the world for almost oll of my life (23 yo) but I didn't even dare to expect anything so touching and expressive, harmonized, rousing and delighting like this. Listen to the things Jack DeJohnette did with Miles Davis. "Live Evil" is my favorite recording with Miles and DeJohnette, where also Jarrett are playing the electric piano. With Miles Jack DeJohnette is much rawer and funkier and free in his sound. fantastic drummer. :)

I confess my ignorance of all things jazz, but I do know my standards, and I love hearing various interpretations. This song, I've heard everyone from Nat King Cole to Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson interpret it. The Jarrett Trio lends its own interpretation to this Kern-Hammerstein classic, the piano placing its lyrical emphasis where the singer sings YOU ARE..., making those two notes the center of the melody and hence the composition. It accomplished what good music always does--it evoked.

I used to disdain Jarrett as well, though I'll admit he's steadily growing on me (especially after hearing his Bach). But your comment puzzles me (...a complete lunatic...). It seems to give the impression that there is something exotic and avant guard about Jarret's playing. I don't get this. I confess I am a complete nonmusician, but to me Jarret's music actually sounds rather banal, sentimental and cliched, his virtuosity notwithstanding (which is obvious even to me).
