This sketch is from 1974. The muppet used for Elmo most likely first appeared around 1979, but Elmo with his current personality didn't appear until around 1984. Before this time, Elmo was an anything monster who appeared in some group and street sketches and for a brief while, he was an adult monster who liked to play games. Richard Hunt played Elmo before Kevin Clash took over and turned him into the lovable (despicable?) toddler monster that we currently know.

I love the fashions back then but you can still look nice now. I would prefer to be in nice clothes from now than in the 1940's because clothing in general was less comfortable. More comfortable materials didn't start being invented until the late 50's.

Kajira Djoumahna even joins them for a totally improv cameo moment at the end. This performance is from the 2005 (1st) Maui Tribal Intensive and it rocked my world.

It's weird because in the movie "Three" with Sam Waterston, they showed Sam Waterston's bare bottom and "berries"...in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" they showed that girl topless while she posed for that painting? In "Jenny" they showed Marlo Thomas' (supposedly) bare breast while she breast fed--they were all rated "M" so I'm wondering if there wasn't a little leeway for a while? If "M" was just like "PG" then, for a time, any kid could get in and watch films with open, incidental nudity?

Yeah... I am just sooo fascinated with the early Amtrak train cars. I line a small town that has a railyard with abandoned rail cars, and there are a few original Amtrak cars, passengers and even some kitchen cars. They've taken some abuse unfortunately, but my best friend and I gained access into them and checked them out. It's so sad that these old Amtraks are being neglected... I don't know why, but they fascinate me. I love Amtrak!

As an Amtrak traveler since 2000, it makes me sad to see the old commercials. That is how Amtrak used to be: comfortable, classy, customer service-oriented? Amtrak's budget for tv/video advertising is very small, which is why we don't see as many like we did back in the 1970s-80s. My favorite Amtrak commercial was that the "Take the A Train" jingle in it back in the late 80s/early 90s. See The Country, Travel Amtrak was also very cool. I miss those days. Regarding the locomotives, I miss the SDP40fs and F40s, but the modern GE Genesis locomotives have grown on me a bit. They look really sleek running at 80mph pulling the Silver Star. :)

So you know, I'll be graduating from ASU as a mechanical engineer in May 2009. You're right theres one kilowatt, max. Then factor in the efficiency of any device you use to make that energy useful. Thermal efficiency of any steam power cycle is about 50%. 500W=~1.5 computers Photo voltaics are just as inefficient, and more expensive to produce. I'm just saying theres no magical solution here. There is generally about 1000 watts per square meter available from the sun for a number of hours per day. You sure are a pessimist. You somehow conclude that nuclear is the way to go, from a video of fresnel lens destruction... I believe that solar power will be harvested in a cost-effective way very soon. Thermodynamics shows there is a difference between heat and temperature. Focusing the sun only concentrates the light energy in one place, giving the high temperature shown. Unfortunately, there is only a certain amount of power available per ft^2. See how the bubbles form only on a small area only on the inside surface... Theres only enough heat to boil that much beer. You would need a very large, expensive, and probably very fragile collector to power a city. Nuclear is the way to go.
