A piston engine intakes fuel once for every 2 revs. of the output shaft. A rotary intakes fuel 4 times for every 3 revs. of the output shaft a rotary uses 3/4 increase of fuel cycle for a 50% increase of output revolutions. A 1.3ltr Rotary will get 13ltr per hundred kilometers, and a 3.8 litre V6 will get 10ltr per hundred. 23% more fuel per hundred and a 34% of the displacment of the V6. So roughly 75% less efficient. Damn! Please disregard my last calculations.

Wow you have NO idea what you are talking about! I own a 1982 mazda rx-7 with a 12A Twin Rotor engine. I got this car back in April 2004 and at that time she had 81K on the engine (which is still the original one...never been rebuilt). NOW in Oct. 2008 the car is STILL running strong and i am on 160k! I use this car DAILY! if you treat them right and replace all the fluids religiously then these things WILL last you. These engies are amazing and reliable in the RIGHt hands!

That is true, but when it first was invented, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Volvo took interest in using this engine in production, but was discontinued due to the fuel consumption and maintenance hassles, and the improper sealing between each chambers which the Apex Seals were later invented.

Wooow, how about you go screw yourself. I own two "turbo'd" Subaru's alright and I've driven cars like the Porsche Carrera 4S. Fact is, I probably know lots more than you do and second, most supercars (e.g. Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc.) don't have turbos jackoff. Go back to your lame ass civic.

Rotaries are racing engines I would hope a racing engine isn't fuel efficient because it's primary focus is not about getting the best gas mileage going from point A to B on a daily basis. If you want a Eco friendly car get a Honda. I am pretty sure those cars in NASCAR get great gas mileage.

Work at a mazda shop. Rather consistent flooding problems. Fouling plugs. Terrible fuel economy. But y'know, the design has benefits. Just have to know how to own a rotary car, and how to properly drive and maintain one, then they're great.

RX8 is FAIL (renesis is garbage) previous gen 13b from RX7 is what you want. The engine is small makes alot of bower, VERY reliable if maintained properly aka 93octane fuel, checking oil every fill-up, and change oil every 1500 miles with non synthetic, yes its expensive, but you have to pay to play ;)

I do I know that they is some advantages but those advantages better balanced engine and that. But the problems with them outweigh the advantages thats a common fact. hey ive had an rx7 (also has rotary) and its been fine im no expert, but do know a little.. if you really want to know, google rotary engines.. but what i do know, is that if the previous owner(s) beat on it, then one of the first things to go out are the "apex seals" which were either replaced or neglected. check that and make sure your source is reliable. rotaries actually burn oil. they're supposed too. so consider that. if you're looking to race or drive fast, get an rx7 or rx7. FAST AS HELL

I remember reading an article a few years ago about how Mazda had trouble with getting repeat business in the 80's and 90's not because of poor quality, but because the cars ran so well for so long families didn't need to buy another one. I had an 1986 626 with 250,000 miles on it that ran great. All I ever did was general maintenance. I own a 90's Miata now and it's always held up well. The powerplant in the Miata is almost bullet proof.

I've gotta say, the rx7 is alright in terms of design. The styling is kind of plain in my opinion, its very similar to the third gen/fourth gen Pontiac Firebirds of the time, albeit a lot smoother and of course unique in its own way. Older RX's were really just knock offs of other's designs in my eyes, the oldest were very similar to Nissan's all the way to the Rx7-FB. That being said, I really dig the RX8's styling over the RX7s. If it was a bit sleaker it'd be amazing, as it is now, its great

From what I know is that storing of liquid gasses includes the need for controlled release of the substances. Hydrogen is SMALL - the smalles atoms so it will seep even through metal (very slowly) the other thing is that as it heats, it expands. You can't isolate it completety so you will have to slowly release it in order to cool/decrease the pressure.

You my friend are an idiot. Hydrogen is very combustible. Any dumbass would know that oxygen is required for any combustible reaction. Try to start a fire in a vacuum. Good luck! Think about it, what would happen if oxygen was not in the comustion chamber in an engine? Nothing! Why do you think when your air filter gets clogged your car is acts funny? I guess the darn hydrocarbon octane (gasoline) isn't what's combustible. Shucks....

i'm not sure about hydrogent... it needs to be kept at -152 celsius to preserve its liquid state; as a gas, it wouldn't give too much power/ l of gas so you couldn't go verry far... please corect me if i am wrong

I agree any joe could make a hho generator I've done it my self its on demand with no storage requierd one easy problem is it over heats like a coffee pot but with a ac cooler and a vapor separator like a destiller tech available right now it shouldn't be a problem and a easy two gallon cell could power a v8 with no problem and in freezing temps just keep it running or take the cell with you.

Ummm Hydrogen gas is lighter then air. If you are hit from behind and there is a leak, the gas would shoot straight up faster then you could blink your eyes.... unlike gasoline that would fall to the ground, splash and burn whatever it touched.
