In my first YouTube do it yourself science experiment, I examine the forces of high voltage power lines, and microwave ovens.. visually. Yes, I found this more interesting than microwaving peeps!

Just because the field is there doesn't mean that it's going to hurt. First of all, it's easier to make the fluorescent tube light up than make the incandescent one light up, which I'm assuming is why he didn't use an incandescent one for the power lines (cool trick I must say, though). Second, the frequency of a power line in the US is 60Hz, far lower than the 2.4GHz frequency used to excite water molecules in a microwave. Still, great video!!:) thanks!

no this is an example of propagating electronic and magnetic waves, its creating a current in the bulbs lighting them the same way as when you plug them in. hes not being microvaved because thats a totally different wavelenth of energy

i think u should b ok cause microwaves are relativle safe if there not contained and raflecting off the sides of an enclosure(the microwave oven) i think the bulb lit up only because the rays were exciting the electrons in the phospher and mucury the uv from the light may actuly b more dangerus (probobly not)

Your talking about different types of radiation. 1 Microwave ovens use non-ionizing radiation in the microwave band hence the name. They dont cause cancer. 2 the radiation coming off the power lines is EM radiation again its non-ionizing and there is no evidence that it causes cancer even in higher doses however some studies say yes it has never been proven. The kind of radiation that causes cancer is ionizing radiation the kind in the Xray and gamma bands the extreme high end of the spectrum.

I don't see how dogs and humans being different species automatically makes it believable that a dog's brain would survive for 10 minutes without blood. say what you want, but i've had better luck with MPC than VLC ...its good for previewing files as they download, though, and for playing video formats that i don't currently have the codecs for...but once you install the codecs, VLC's load time and operation can be so goddamn annoying that you'll never use it again case in point: .mkv files...holy crap VLC sucks with them

vlc won't screw up windows, only misusing it would ever cause that... VLC will play videos using a much broader range of codecs right 'out of the box' while Mplayer classic depends almost entirely on the codecs you install with it. As for the crap nobody needs, you're probably talking about the streaming parts... I use those to stream media around my house... not really what it was originally intended for, but it works quite well :-)

The problem with Thermite over water isnt the Hydrogen and Oxygen problem, in fact, the water just evaporates. The problem is the molten iron creating a pocket of water, which then expands to steam, and the iron under that pressure, while being cooled can produce shrapnel. In lame mens terms, Imagine a molten iron hand grenade. So, Use sand, which gives a cool glass/iron pattern, and is much safer.

You are very right. Chemistry lesson kids: Al is so reactive that when exposed to the oxygen in the air it reacts to form Al2O3 (aluminum oxide, the Al equivalent of rust) almost instantly. Easy. Just freeze water in any old freezer in a sealed container. The thing is, most containers are too dirty and normal tap water is too impure, so buy a bottle of Aquafina or something and freeze it unopened. You'll have to be careful, however. If you remove it in too careless a way, it'll turn solid before you get to do anything with it.

yes, but the misinterpretation is that slowing your clock fast forwards your surroundings, allowing you to travel into the future. It just allows you to experience more in the same time. Btw, a longer lasting particle doesn't prove a slowed clock, traveling fast means passing more energy creating a more stable particle. I'm interpreting a slowed clock scenario to be due to more current passing through your brain allowing faster calculation of your surroundings.
