In a complete breakdown, the first things of value are food, water, safety, items of need. Second after these, gold and silver are used as money; they have been for thousands of years. Ask anyone in war-torn Iraq if they will take a gold coin in trade for goods/services. Heck yes! They know they can use it anywhere in the world as money.

What makes anyone think deleveraging will stop? I see no evidence of private sector credit market expansion... And Gov is too small to make up for it (believe it or not! haha $1T deficit is *nothing*) The ironic part is the more Gov tries to intervene to prop up sick markets, the further healthy private sector is crushed, first by competition, and next by interest rates (as the Gov deficit spending increases). This is a MASSIVE destruction in credit! And it won't stop for a long time.

There are plenty of things that are finite and scarce. Gold's intrinsic value is in its applications as metal, other than that it is only *representative* of value. Just like paper money. Gold is of value if people will honor its value. It's not like food which is of use to everyone. We will not be returning to gold after the fall of the fiat system. We'll come up with a new system of economic transaction - and not one based on centralized government or pyramid-scheme fraudulent banking.

Logical sense you say ? What about the INTEREST thats involved, which is the reason for all of this. What im saying is along as there is INTEREST in any currency there will be inflation which leads to devaluation. This is all hype. NEW CURRENCY LEADS TO NEW GOVERNMENT.
