Try running with resistance. When I was a kid I used to be a sprinter and they made me run with tires tied around my waist.

Uh im no expert infact im no where near but the main thing you want to do to run faster is lose weight and your at a good body weight then im pretty sure strengthening your legs via this exercise or other ones will make you go a fair bit faster.

nothing wrong with what your coach says.if you're a bit taller its good to point your toes outward for extra stability. I personally like going deeper it releases some stress from your knees,and you get an overall better workout.
