Intimo17 You sound bitter and harsh about your brother. The body and mind are very complex and diagnosis is very hard. I have friends with compromised autoimmune systems and rather than doubt them I encourage them to see specialists to have the best quality of life possible. It is possible he is anemic (for example) just one of a zillion reasons possible for "Chronic Fatigue" Cut little brother some slack and be a bit supportive. It is not a picnic for him either! Right?

thethunderchild123, I think he portrays it well with the lack of attention span, the disorganization with his books, the boredom that that takes him from one thing to another, the procrastination. I disagree that you can force yourself to pay attention. With lack of certain chemicals the brain does dysfunction and exacerbates ADD. Understanding the components of ADD & having an ADD couch helps you have more insight into yourself to live a more stable live in all areas. Some meds are beneficial.

I have ADD myself and I dont agree with the way it is portrayed in this video, well yes what the guy is saying sounds true particularly the relationship aspect, but what he is leaving out is that like any other condition were not helpless to it we can fight it we can force ourselves to pay attention, we cannot use it as an excuse that our lives dont seem as rosey as other peoples maybe its because this guy was diagnosed so late in life that he feels a bit powerless to it.

actually it is not. i've got ADD myself. psychologists do have the knowledge for it, and they can tell you if you have it, but they arent allowed to, because it has to do with the different wiring in your brain, and since it is being treated with medicines, you have to go to a psychiatre, not a psychologist. i also study psychology myself, so i think i DO know where i am talking about. pure from an official point of view. best regards!

The school system will put any label it can to take attention away from itself, to place it on a "problem" that can't be helped. If you can afford it, I'd send your children to tutors after school or try to find the "smart guy" of the neighborhood and ask him if he'll help your child out. Those always did the best. Delays are normal in all children and teachers sometimes make it worse by ignoring certain students.

The school system I'm in labeled me, and wanted me to be in "special classes" because I learn slower due to ADD. they were really rude about it too, and got me to believe I was really mentally reatarted. It sounds to me like what he is suggesting is that the 'deficit' and 'deficiency' are in the methods of teaching, rather than in the learners. So true. Although I did not necessarily have trouble with the material, the restrictive 'you-must-learn-this-thing-in-this-way' method of approach did more to discourage my interest in learning, than it did to nurture and encourage it.

I have a son with CP and a seizures, and a daughter diagnosed with ADD, who's on Methlyn. It's been a nightmare for us. I'm scared for my kids, being in the public school system and dealing with the medical community. We're getting nowhere fast and lost in the system. My kids childhood is flashing by, and they aren't getting any constructive help, just the minimal effort to cement jobs. My parenting skills are being scrutinized everyday. I'm calling this number!
