Sorry, but this video is totally unprofessional (funny yes). All it does for me is reinforce the general public stereotype that nursing is a semi-skilled semi-professional career staffed by women who promote the airhead ditz "naughty nurse" stereotype. But now, even worse, apparently those same people are all in it for the money and alleged "status" of being a BSN. The problem is that nursing is not and will not ever be a glamourous job in reality. I am a newborn nurse and I feel that all women should breastfeed and/or pump, if they are able to. HOWEVER, I do feel that, when in public, they should cover up with a blanket or shawl or something. A lady at my church is nursing her baby and she just "pops it out" in the middle of church, without covering or being discrete. I feel that some women use it as an attention seeking means.

Why are people more accepting of a person abusing a child in public, then we are breast feeding. With my own experience I've seen and reported abuse more times than I care to mention. When I see public breastfeeding, I see love. The baby is being cared for, thats what matters.

Americans are so stupid. The idea that in this society breasts are sexual is too stupid to even talk about. We are still driven by the pseudo religious right and the fear that the body is either so sacred that it should be covered or that the body is nasty it should be covered. Get over it! Breast feeding is just as reasonable, natural and normal as breathing. Any person who has a problem with a baby being fed with a breast is just stupid and should go home and go to bed. Pitiful!

I really don't understand why so many people get offended by people who breast feed in public. Whats the big deal? It's not like breats are sexual organs like a vagina or a penis. So why is it so disgusting? I can understand that some people may feel uncomfortable. But if thats how you feel, don't look at the women doing it. Or just go somewhere else. :/ Simple as that. i was on a bus just recently and this chick popped hers out to feed her crying baby. She was tryna be discreet but everyone pretty much got flashed before she put the blanket over them. I think they should buy one of those tops or use a blanket... i hate eating in a restaurant or somewhere and seeing someone pop out a breast 2 feed a baby. ok, nursing mama here... you can nurse your baby in public without "bearing it all". I cover up with a blanket so that it makes me feel more comfortable and doesn't make anyone else feel weird. Most of the time people don't even realize what's going on under there after the baby starts eating. There's absolutely no reason why a nursing mom should have to stay home because she may need to feed her baby and we shouldn't have to hide in a bathroom either!

I agree 100% with Ms. Staten that breast feeding is a private matter that should not be done in a public setting. What ever happened to "tact" and "etiquette", especially in our country (i.e. USA)? I completely understand the benefits and support it, however, a private setting is much more appropriate. About breast feeding - my mother raised 8 kids and stopped after the first two. I was not breast fed and have no ill effects because of it.

Mothers KNOW that it makes people uncomfortable. My aunt did that blanket breat feeding thing infront of me when I was little and it made me uncomfortable. In the mall where I live there's couches in the bathrooms which I think were put there for breast-feeding mothers, and some restaurants do too. I generally have a hard time with kids being in restaurants and stuff, it (honestly) makes me anxious because a lot of children scream and have tauntrums. Like that breast feeding in public jus

so often good staff are hindered from doing the job they want to do by the corporate parents of these homes cutting budgets so there isn't enough staff to serve the patients. i do the marketing for The Garcia Law Firm on the west coast and after doing (and winning) hundreds of elder abuse cases, he now does class actions against these companies that put profits before people. These cases force change because if they don't change, they must go back to court and pay more penalties.

Unfortunately most people aren't willing to do what is required to sustain their parents. It's like caring for a grown baby in a lot of cases (feeding, changing their incontinence pad, wiping their butt etc). And they don't have a nurses available at any time.

I am glad my parents did not die in a nursing home. My mother died at home in her own bed and we were there as a family. I had to put aside some time for her and there were no regrets on my part. Sure our home is not like a hotel like most nursing homes brag to be, but I am sure that I would resent anyone taking care of my mom and be critical of how she moves and cares for her anyway, no matter how good she may be.

I think it is best to be sure that the sick or elder be left living in there home, I bet most want to live in there homes, not a business nursing home, but some that require round the clock medical care, can be a difficult choice to make, it should depend on the health of them, and is a nursing home the only solution?. Before you haters even start about us having her in a nursing home..My Nana had a lot of her leg removed due to improper cleaning of the wound by PROFESSIONAL NURSES.We were there day and night caring for her until the end, we are not the kind of family that tosses their loved one in a home and visits once a month like most people do. A nursing home where they improperly medicated her, a nursing home where she was treated like crap and even TEASED and MOCKED by staff. I am not complaining about providing care, but I am also witness to residents abusing nurses' aides, not to me but to my colleagues. They say bad words and hit them, and some aides just cry and cannot do anything. Yes, I am upset that families treat their own parents like trash. Some do not visit at all, and if they do, they could not even bear to hold them.

The Director of Nursing talked to me about the letters they keep on receiving from residents whom I have helped, because some can still write even if they are plagued with diseases. And ye have to say that not allresidents are good people, just as not all aides are good, either. Some residents are miserable and they try to make other people miserable, too.

Some use the computer, but I'm not talking about assisted living. Very few in advanced nursing are able to write letters to the director. I didn't say aides are "hardened criminals", you made that up. I am the ONLY ONE in my floor who brushes residents' teeth and clean them very well. When the other residents started praising me and writing letters to management about the care I providd them, the other nursing aides did the same, hence, I was a positive influence. However, I feel the pain of my co-workers because they do their best and still are seen as nasty. As much as possible I want my whole team to give the best service and be appreciated in return.

Gee why should men enter nursing, you're surrounded by hot female RNs, don't have to be on call, RNs call the shots, do the cool procedures, the pay is great, you can travel, work on cruise ships, pick your hours, never worry about unemployment.The reasons are endless.

these men have courage to go against what society deems acceptable. to go into a profession that requires such a tremendous amount of knowledge and compassion is never easy. there is a philosophical difference between medicine and nursing and it is people like these (and all nurses) who will never abandon the idea of caring and compassion. that there are people behind the suffering, not just a disease. who else will advocate for us and our families when we are alone and scared? thanks nurses.

As a single guy, I have to admit pictures of such events always make me feel they shouldn't have bothered. Somehow watching video it didn't seem either way to me. I suppose relative to viewpoints on what is better there will always be differing views as to where to birth or how or if to document. Now as to the father, you look pretty much like me -- ugly. Looking at her though didn't seem revealing, disgusting or anything really. Just a real cool event or shall I say special?

I'm a L&D nurse and strongly agree about Dr. Jack Newman, the asymmetrical latch etc. It is hard as a nurse to follow hospital policies and give woman a great natural birth experience as well. Many women come in wanting an epidural immediately or as soon as the contractions get really intense. I had all 6 of mine without any medication. I know not everyone can, especially back labor but it looks like you had a wonderful delivery.

So beautiful! I am late seeing this video but congratulations, almost two years old now! I also had all 3 of my children at home, that was over 20 years ago and I breastfeed all three until they were two years old. I still wouldn't do it any other way. Just lovely.

This is so much better than the way babies are usually dealt with in the hospital. They take it away, manhandle it and leave it alone under a light while all these measurements,etc. are done. It doesn't have to be like that. They can clean the baby up later.

I highly recommend Dr. Jack Newman's book "The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers." I read it twice before I gave birth. Focus especially on the chapters about how to achieve a proper asymmetrical latch. I also would watch the videos he has on his website, showing both good and bad latches and how to correct them, showing how to do breast compression, etc. They were very helpful.

First, there was no midwife. Second, you don't need to routinely clear air passages at all. It's something that's done as a tradition in most hospitals, but it's not necessary. Recent reserach shows that even in babies who are born with meconium in the amniotic fluid (which wasn't the case with my daughter, by the way), suctioning is more harmful than helpful as long as the baby is vigorous.

Wow, I am so jealous of your courage to be able to deliver at home. I gave birth to my son 3 months ago and I CANNOT imagine giving a home birth, you are a very brave woman. I had an epidural... woman are getting too dependent on it, =( but at least I am breastfeeding. I had to wait 6 hours to be able to breastfeed my son, they had already given him formula which aggravated me: I specifically told them not to.

I am just wondering, did the midwife even made sure the air passages are cleared before she allowed the baby to be breastfed? I mean, what usually happens is that they clear the air passages first and wipe off the blood at the same time. COngratulations, you don't look exhausted at all.
