Who sucks more? Peter Moore, or Bernie Stolar? For some backup just in case you don't know, Bernie said when producing the Saturn, "No American releases of RPG's and 2d games in America." Also when he wanted to push out the Saturn slowly, he announced at E3 of all places, "Saturn is not our future." Everyone freaked out. It was 2 yeas before the Dreamcast. Developers were pissed they were developing for a dead console. Thoug people still are developing games for dreamcast unofficially!

I adored my Dreamcast- my very first console I bought for myself, with a light gun- arcade perfect House of the Dead 2, Soul Calibur, Metropolis Street Racer (which I loved more than Project Gothams) and talking to my then girlfriend in Spain via the first console ever to be online. The Dreamcast was beautiful.

I have my sega genesis, sega cd, sega saturn & my sega dreamcast all in superb condition. My Genesis is the 2nd version with a light mod. I've spent alot of money buying games on ebay & in the fleamarkets. Mainly because I buy rare games as opposed to common games. Strategy guides are even more difficult to acquire depending on the title. Long live sega!!!!!

ur right man. I still have my Dreamcast I bought back in 2001 (only because Gamestop wouldn't buy mine anymore). Itz in perfect condition and i still play it. In my opinion, the Dreamcast was better than PS2 and even better than PS3! That system was ahead of itz time and cud be considered revolutionary even today.

I had a Sega CD 2nd gen model, that had the Genesis built into it. Really odd system in that it ran off DC power. Yea, I had Sonic CD, Ecco CD, Pugsy, and Tomcat Fighter Plane, among others. Never had any of the infamous "FMV" dragon's lair-style games. Yknow Kingdom Hearts 2's constant use of "action button" opportunity commands totally reminds me of the ol' FMV-type stuff....

i admit it was ultimatly a dumb move on his part. but to be fair to him he was playing it safe, after all, not many RPGs made it out of Japan back in the Mega Drive/SNES days, they werent considerd mainstream really (only 3 of the 6 final fantasies came to the US, none to Europe before FF7) why spend money translating a huge game that might not sell so he may have been acting out of experience. and he supposidly has a lot of it since he started at Atari back in the 70s

Sigh The point is you said you guys mentioned there were "no killer launch titles for the Saturn" (about 1:20), only to then say "lets talk about some of the big titles that came out for Saturn AFTER the system was released" (1:25). You go on to mention Virtua Fighter, Daytona USA, and also Panzer Dragoon among these great tiles released after the system came out, when in fact, ALL 3 of those were launch titles, and the system itself was bundled with Virtua Fighter at launch. Look it up.

You both are very correct. However, when I correct DB, I never stated that Sonic was a launch game for the genesis, only that both kicked ass on the Genesis. In our actual Genesis video we discuss how Sonic came after the Genesis launch and replaced Alex Kidd as the new Sega Mascot. ~Gooch

Well I guess the problem with me is, in my mind, I'm comparing Nights to Super Mario 64. Both games came out at around the same time. I bought an N64 on launch day and was thoroughly blown away by Mario 64. I never got around to getting a Saturn until something like 2003, so it was never a special system to me. I'm not saying Nights is a bad game by any means, I just feel it's overrated...

Thank you for posting this. It was because of Sega Channel that I discovered gems like Dynamite Heddy, Gunstar Heroes, Vectorman and Alien Soldier that I might have never played because of the limited choices at the video store (not that I needed them with SC). There was a time, not really all that long ago - or at least I'd like to think of it that way - I'd come home from school every first of the month to see what games I got to play on the Sega Channel. Seriously, it rocked. I pretty much didn't have to rent Genesis games from 1995 onward until they killed it. No SC memories video is complete without that annoying "Your Sega Channel adapter is not receiving a signal..." error message I'd get. "The hell with your errors, I wanna play Shadowrun!"

You know what would be a good idea? Someone should make a front-end for Gens that acts like the Sega Channel. You could have the frontend select 50 roms at random and put them in a menu each month (or two weeks as they later did) and selecting a game brings up the intro and the game itself.

Sure some people say that the X-Box is actually the Dreamcast 2. There are, however, problems with that notion. 1. I cannot play all of my favorite traditional Sega games (Virtual Fighter etc.) at the same time as playing awesome stuff like Panzer Dragoon on the same system. I have to have more than just a Sega now. 2. This is money in Microsoft's pocket, I'd much rather it be money in Sega's pocket. 3. Saturn haves co-opprocessors what made it more faster(but also more harder platform to code), it also had more memory, better sound-chip and a lot better gfx-chip(actualy two). People should learn that gfx-chip/card and memory is as big thing in speed as the processor!

Saturn was finally the Sega system that was clearly better than SNES both in terms of raw power and the effort that developers put in the games (Panzer Zwei was amazing). I mean, Sega CD's potential was wasted on crappy FMV games, and 32X had power but very few games showed anything that couldn't have been done on snes, especially in terms of sound. Saturn's execution was by no means perfect either (no Sonic, high price) and you get a trifecta of products that killed the Sega hardware brand.

Well, I'd have to say that the Sega Saturn's capabilities were more than just upgraded by being driven. There is many differences, not just cartridge and disc. The Saturn was an upgrade in many respects. Needles to say the 32X was an incredible system with great capabilities for its time.

the 32x is about as powerful as a ds. So if you think this was to much for 32X. Well then boy do you think 32X is crap. I don't really have a point to what Im saying. But this is what the 32x can do. Saturn had a game made by these guys called scorcher. Its more powerful than this and has the same graphic style. Well playing back non interactive tech demos is one thing, but real time is another. Come on look at that draw distance, the fog is right there real close, something in a game that would be unacceptable. PSX had a better tech demo with the T-rex.

Given the decidedly groupish logo at the start and the style of the demo, I'd hazard that it's a scene demo rather than a developer video. The graphics look rather N64ish, eh? But as poster above states, it's doubtful you could have got graphics of this high polygon count out of it in an in-game situation.

That's the thing. THis is all it could handle. Try making a game out of that world. You can't because all of that eye candy is using up all the RAM and processes. No room for gameplay code, character models w/ skeletal movement data, etc.

I agree to that, but these guys say that the brand Sega no longer have enough loyal users compared to that of the other console brands because of bad strategies in the past (SEGA 32x and Saturn early release). Its a shame that the Dreamcast has to go too early before more people can love it, it was a promising gaming system.

Well you have to expect that any company will play dirty. Its business. They are in it to make money, not help the competition. Not ethical but ethics are rarely seen in business. Sony didn't single handedly break Dreamcast. That was Sega's own fault. They did THEMSELVES dirty over the years and it finally caught up to them. PS2 just happened to be there in their final breath to pull the plug. Had Sega maintained a good name over the years, Dreamcast would still have been alive.

Making consoles two years apart from one another, and not very good consoles at that, lead them to the position they were at when they finally made Dreamcast. To be honest the best consoles Sega ever produced were the Genesis and the Dreamcast. Period. Saturn could have worked as their competitor against the Playstation 1 had it not screwed up its launch and game library in the US. Actually Sega was destroyed by its own hand. The PS2 was anything but mighty back then, and even then, there wasn't much the PS2 would do that the Dreamcast couldn't. The only reason it beat Sega out of the console business was because Sega was already leaning on the edge of a cliff. PS2 just happened to be the factor that gave them that final push to their death. And they got to that edge by ruining their reputation over the years.

Obviously, no one read the technical details, and the amazing FMV Sony showed during a press conference was more than enough to incite the hype... Also, no one noticed that the amazing FMV was exactly that: a FMV, showing images WAY beyond the capabilities of the PS2. Frankly, to this day, has anyone seen that level of detail in ANY PS2 game?? True. One thing that impressed the gaming community at the time was the fact that, while the Dreamcast could output 3 million polygons at a time, the PS2 would allegedly do 75 million. Mistakes: Dreamcast wasn't the first console with a web browser. In the West, the Sega Saturn had the Netlink, which I believe was bundled with a browser. Also, Windows CE wasn't the main platform for the DC. It was an optional easy route for programmers to take, but very few games did (Sega Rally 2 was one). The few games that used Windows CE say so when they're booting up.
