I fucking love this guy. He is dead on. People think we take a big shit and there is a pallet of newspapers(that's what I print) thay have no freakin clue to the blood, sweet, and tears it takes to do a 3/4 million impressons in a 10 hour shift. lah-tey Hope that helps... yeah, its a neat idea, but the time it takes to make the art is a bit long. Could you imagine a line of customers at a coffeeshop waiting for that? I just stick to the standard pour latte art, i never cared for toothpick-ed latte art because it takes away from the actual skill it takes to make it. (granted, i understand that the creme of the shot and the milk has to be steamed/frothed almost perfectly for good art.)

I have to say...I have friends that have worked at Starbucks....those machines that pull shots are not properly updated as they should be. Weather, temperature, humidity, all play a part in making good epresso. The grind of the espresso should be adjusted to accomodate all these things..plus the strenght of the preson making the shots. There are so many things that must be taken into account. A person is required to adjust this all.

I run a coffee shop and worked very hard for a long time learning to steam milk just right and pour it correctly to make latte art. It takes practice and talent. I admit this machine seems cool at first glance but I don't understand why people want to take the human element out of coffee making. It is bad enough watching people at starbucks just push a button to pull espresso shots

A lot of the emulsion type now can be washed out to recover the screen as well, the old days you cut the screen off and restreched cloth on it and made a new one. We printed onto glass sheets so remakes due to cuts was normal. No flash driers - just racks with fans. No printers, either a photographic Ortho film or hand cut gel on acetate. Very time consuming and lots of dangerous waste including lacquer thinner since we printed with lacquers and washed them out end of shift or end of run.

Actually this is easy, I did commercial screen making in the mid 70's for Illinois Moulding Co in Chicago and it was a gel coated paper you soaked in potassium dichromate that stained your hands brown then you had to put acetate on top of the gel side, put it on a vacuum table, place the Ortho film positive on top, close the table, vacuum out, expose with a carbon arc lamp. When done you pulled the acetate, put on a screen and rolled, pulled the paper backing, washed then used a blocking varnish

better than most i have seen, i am a screenprinter. you should have mentioned that if the emulsion seems hard to spray out you may have over exsposed your stencil. also you should explain pin holes and saw toothing as well as using tainted emulsion after coating should be kept seperate and could be used as a blockout device in lieu of tape. but tape does help in the cleaning and reclaiming process. mike

At first it is pretty brittle, especially the thin or fine parts. But then you dip the whole thing in a vat of superglue, which infuses into whatever you build and makes it very strong. It also brings out the color, if you have a color print.

the machine doesnt see the model you design as in this case, balls between races, it does seperate the model into thin slices going bottom to top. the machine then takes a thin layer of a certain material, makes the first layer which is more or less 2D, like any sort of inkjet printer, goes back to the powder, takes some more, build up the second layer and so on. if you seperated the balls in the model you buil on the PC, it should be seperated and movable on the finished "printed" model.

Excellent, excellent video. I'm a huge noob but I've screen printed over 100 t-shirts (10 of them 3 color using 3 small screens) using the very basic Speedball kit setup from a craft store (go ahead and laugh) and this helps explain how they pros do it, which helps me understand how to do the very basic things. Thank you for your video. All my stuff came out good, but I learned a huge lesson about black sweatshirts.

Subimination, over flashin may cause this. when the ink gets hot enough it will turn into a gas and will stick to whatever is closest, such as other colors. And in my experience the only reason why other colors arent lineing up, it could be use some more spray adhesive and let the shirt cool before doing the other colors. sometime you cant always rely on registration marks.

Ryan, I believe I can answer this one, if you put the shirts on top of each other after you have screen printed them without flash curing, you risk the possiblity of ink touching the other shirts and ruing the whole job.

probably you havent cured them enough but there are quite a few things to take into account. try more curing time and more temperature but on two different shirts. It's not that easy to get right but once you get the temperature and time right you're good to go. try a few different settings but it's almost always better to leave it in your curing unit a few more seconds.

Yes, it's like the modern version of woodblock printing, its softer and easier to cut, however, I have yet to see any of the same quality as some Ukiyo-e I have seen.

Cool. A couple NOOB questions tho. I'm assuming this method you do not need to carve out different plates for each colour. Does it take long for the paints/inks to dry before going onto another colour? Is there a specific order in which you apply the colours (ie: lights to darks). What is the best wood/material to use for a beginner?

Excellent video on woodblock printing! It's nice to see a video of such professional quality dealing with relief printing. Narration was both insightful & helpful. I save on printer cost by going to my college with my flash drive and using their printers instead of mine. Yes it's extra work but at least I don't have to pay to replace cartridges as often. Plus their color printers are better than mine. Inks expensive.
