Agreed, not everything WAS satire.. but this is. Archie represents (here and elsewhere) the close minded, bigoted, short sighted 'every man' that tries to lay blame for his problems on the other guy. (i.e: They MADE me buy it!) Everything stops at the end of his own nose... this dialog is a perfect example. I agree, the show was very very well written. It played to the populist (you, the live audience) as well as many of us who saw it for what it was... a comment on such points of view.

While the character was satire, not everything Lear or O'Connor wrote for Archie was meant as satire. The show was better written. It wasn't just blatant conservative bashing. That was the magic. Lear and O'Connor even gave Archie's commentary *they* agreed with. They wanted the audience to agree with him too sometimes. The live audience agreed with Archie on this one for example. It was a populist rant. My family still uses "pournt", or "our" sound for anything with "oi".

it's not going to happen until we find a way to include voters who want to vote for third parties but feel that their vote is better used strategically. Look at the link in my profile and in the about page of that blog you'll see my idea for what to do about this problem. In a nutshell, I want to organize both third party voters and lesser-of-two-evils voters together, count them, and show that they do have the numbers to win at least local elections (where a lot of change can happen)
