well actually i watch both and btw y should anyone care what they watch or not...i meant that cause without any crashes the whole field would be pretty much spread out and the race would pretty much be decided. If there were crashes the field would be much closer and ppl would have an opportunity to pass one another and can possibly change the tide of the race...meaning who wins or not.

No worries - When Panoz/Elan Motorsprot Technologies won the chassis contract for the Superleague Formula, they used the DP-01 Champ Car as a base. The SF car is barely any different aside from mods to allow it to hold a natural-aspiration engine. I honestly believe the DP-01 being cheaper to operate scared Tony George into making an the irresistable offer for the unification.

I'm very wary of having TG in charge - I always preferred CART/Champ Car. But in the last few years of the war it became clear he'd realized that CART's race formula was the way to go. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He has until 2011(when all issues interfering with implementation of CART/Champ Car tracks have been resolved and we see the new car) to prove he's willing to do what the fans want. On that note... ALMS at Burke Lakefront Airport is a VERY appealing concept.

Another duel of the diesels... Should be interesting. Maybe I'll have my cable upgrade(gotta upgrade my service before next IndyCar season - need to get Versus) so I can see ALL the ALMS events. I lazed out on upgrading because I'm primarily an open-wheel fan and since I was able to catch ALL of the new season of unified IndyCar I didn't worry about upgrading. Now I have to do so because unlike most cable services, I don't get Versus on my standard service.

I don't think they'll be building a new Prototype for next year. I've heard the rumors, but I don't see it. They're getting stiff competition from Peugeot but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. They'll be spending 2009 making sure their new LMP1 for 2010(when they'll HAVE to have one) is as good as it can possibly be. I do expect their Le Mans win streak to be interrupted next year, but I guarantee they'll be willing to take that hit to perfect their next LMP.

DTM has no relation to Le Mans racing. Audi does indeed put some effort into that, but the previous comment was meant more towards the R10 program. The R10 was indeed built SOLELY to win Le Mans. That it can even challenge these other cars, most of which(especially the LMP2s) are far more suited to tight twisty tracks, is amazing. Even Audi admits to being pleasantly surprised by it, and its why they never really got bothered if they fail to take the overall win so long as they get the class win

The Viper is GT3-spec with Hankook tires and some custom parts, the Panoz has led laps in GT2 this year, the Vantage GT2 has only one professional driver and neither have raced on the ALMS tracks, and both the Ford GT teams don't have full pro drivers. The Corvette Racing move to GT2 is official.

Really? I hadn't heard that. I thought there was a privateer Z06 already running but considering how successful the C6.R has been worldwide I'd be amazed to see them switch to GT2. Agreed though, I'm stoked about BMW rejoining the fight. I'd like to see the Aston Martin, Panoz, Viper, and Ford GT get up to speed though.

Dale Earnhardt Jr raced in an American Lemans Series Corvette in 2004 at Infineon. In practice, he had this scary crash where he suffered only minor burns. Earnhardt later said he clearly remembers someone pulling him out of the car (he is obviously dazed after the hit), but in the video, you can see nobody is there to do that.

nope. a chicane is an S-curve designed to slow cars, usually interrupting a straight. the fact that it's an S-curve doesn't make it a chicane. in the case of laguna seca, they're just exploiting topography - slowing cars is never an issue at that track.
