The writing in the movie was top-notch but I must admit that Heath Ledger stole the show. I found myself getting upset when he wasn't on screen because I was so fascinated by his character and the Ledger (as bale stated) "immersed himself completely" in the role. I like the idea that he killed and created havoc for no particular reason "I'm like a dog chasing cars..." He had a dark sense of humor that I felt was always lacking from the previous jokers. I didn't get it at first, but i had to watch it a few times to realize what was wrong with hide. Yoshiki changed the way the drumming went, so it can mess up everyone and the whole song, the hide in fact wroted. Of course, this being hide's song, he notice the mistake quickly and everyone keeps playing. That's why he's looking at yoshiki in a "wtf" face. Hey, show some respect for the greatest Joker of all-time. Heath Ledger is the best Joker ever. Much better than Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamill and Cesar Romero's Jokers. I love both versions of the Joker. Jack Nichoson is hilarious and insane. Heath Ledger is incredibly demented and psychotic. Both are great actors and did wonders with the role! I must say though, that Jack Nichoson's version had something innately sexy. Maybe it's the whimsey. :-) Heath Ledger was sexy too, but I'd be afraid that his version would chop me up in little bits. XD

I know everybody and his dog's said this, but Heath Ledger's performance is freakishly amazing. All the subtleties and quirks so carefully worked into the character. It's so good its almost unholly. Like he sold his soul to the devil to get it this good. Damn shame Ledger died. Movies need more good actors like him.
