He was extremely lucky. The parachute was what saved him. If the car had gotten tangled in the chutes lines he would have died. The stunt itself was extremely stupid from an aerodynamic prespective. To cut through the air at that speed and attack angle you would need a needlepoint shaped vehicle, not the huge flat-fronted Lincoln. The little 'wings' installed on his car were crushed in microseconds under the tremendous loads placed on them.

I really enjoyed this video! My one problem: Why so many blank areas? Realizing that these occurred when Gregory Peck wasn't speaking, I still would've enjoyed some sort of period pictures! 1) The emancipation Provlomation only freed slaves in the states which were "in opposition to the United States" so effectively did not free a single person. 2)We were not even close to being the first country to outlaw slavery. Sorry. Not only were we one of the LAST countries to do so, we only did after the bloodiest war ever fought at that time. 3) Slavery in the US did not end until the 13th ammendment in 1865, after pretty much every other civilized country did so without violence.

There was a PBS documentary done a long time ago called Lincoln - the best I've seen. The composer, Alan Menken, is quite influenced by Copland's works, but his score was better than Copland - more dramatic, heroic, cohesive, melodic... unforgettable. It is a difficult score to find but well worth it. I think if you enjoy Copland you will enjoy Menken's Lincoln even more. Some of the most powerful and stirring music I've heard.

i just saw him in concert at St. Louis... you can really tell he gets overwhelmed by the holy spirit, and he just lets it all come out on stage. He has some of the most amazing riffs i've ever heard in contemporary christian music... i say he deserves that title

Great songwriting and wonderful words! But I have to admit I don't understand why everyone is talking about his great guitar playing. From this video (and others) it sounds solid, but nothing out of the ordinary. Is there something I'm missing here? This video is truly awesome. Max and Abbey made a true classic jazz album. Max was already considered a great jazz drummer and Abbey was known as an actress and jazz diva. I feel Abbey's best performance in a movie was "Nothing But A Man", starring Abbey and Ivan Dixon. This video is like finding a gold mine. Abbey is still making great music.

Nice video, My first job was there making clamcakes in 1978,my first girlfriend also. It was the only Rollercoaster i have rode. I always went there as a child. New owners took over and tried to charge everyone who entered the park. that was a mistake and end of the park. I wish they would build the condo around the coaster. thanks again

fantastic song and video. thank you. the slide was always bittersweet. I wish there was footage of it here. It was by the parking lot and it was also like only one ticket to ride (as opposed to 3 for the tilt-a-whirl) I'd always save one ticket for the slide, winded at the top of the stairs finding our Chevy Nova in the lot knowing it was the last fun of the day. Still don't remember which way the carpet was supposed to face tho. And don't even get me started on pitching pennies for chocolates..

This video brought back so many memories -growing up in New Bedford, Lincoln Park was THE place to be. When I turned 16 the summer of 87 a friend & I decided to get jobs there (in the games dept). It was one of the best summers of my life. Little did we know that our plans of working there every summer would never come to pass. Now i'm 37 years old..I live & work in NYC. But whenever friends are talking about jobs they had as kids, I think back to Lincoln Park. Best job ever!! :)

I can't tell you how grateful I am to see this all again. My sibs and I would sit behind the steering wheel of our old car and pretend we could go anywhere we wanted. I'd say 'where you want to go?" and everyone would say"Lincoln Park!" I taught my own kids to say that even though we live in San Francisco. WOW!! Even though I was less than 10 the last time I went to Lincoln Park, I remember ALL of the rides you show in the video!! It was a very special place where me and my grandfather used to go once a summer from the time I was 3 or 4 till about 9 or 10. I think the big parks have lost something. For instance, I doubt 6 Flags or Disney will ever have Clam Cakes like Lincoln Park, if they did, they would just be big flavorless greasy balls of burned or raw dough.

Oh what memories that just brought back. I grew up in Swansea and every summer we collected the free strips of tickets the gas stations used to give out. Imagine free tickets? No where can you go to an amusement park that cheap anymore. Once a summer we made the trek to Dartmouth and spent a whole day just having fun as kids and brought a picnic with us. I wish my grandson could experience that kind of fun today but those days are gone and imbedded into our memories. Thanks for the memories!!

I remember that first hill on the coaster your butt lifted off the seat and all you had was that bar in front of you to hold on to! I'm glad I had this as a child but it also saddens me that all my daughter will have are the big chain parks that cost $100/day and you have to wait in each line for 2 hours. These family parks are a thing of the past, sad to say. Too bad Mass. didn't jump on the chance to save it when they could. Now it's going to be condos? Makes me ill.

You *were absolutely correct with this statement about 5 years ago. American cars have improved significantly in the past 5 years with regards to quality AND styling. The initial quality inspections by JD Power Associates,Edmunds,as well as several other publications verify what I'm saying. The only thing the big 3 face is what YOU face Marietta,the PERCEPTION that American cars are poor quality. The American public to this day has not forgiven the big 3 for their poor quality from the past.

To put it in terms you can understand, this car is priced like a 3 series, with features from a 7 series and more interior room than a 5 series. priced like a C class, with features from an S Class and more interior room than an E class. to put it in other words, priced like an A4 packed with features from an A8 with more interior room than an A6. that's a winner by any formula.

you somehow associate build quality with assembly quality. American car companies get a bad rap for crap interiors because they have interiors made by shit manufacturers (like Johnson controls) which will line the inside of a car for a fraction what superior manufacturers will do. However a lot of american car makers have migrated over to higher quality builders like Delphi (who makes the interiors for nearly all Japanese cars) which is why materials and quality are similar to most "imports".

And as blasphemous as it may be to say, this car is at current the closest american equivalent thus far to an S-Class, priced at about half of an S-Class, packing a basket of technology, no doubt "inspired" by the S-Class. kudos for lincoln.

not for nothing, but this car is not a replacement for the LS. The LS was taken out of the lineup, this was put in it. that's about the end of their co-relation. And Lexus, additionally, is not American, every Lexus in the lineup (with few exception) exists in Japan as a Nissan.

u really know nothing about the car industry. all car companies build cars globally. however that usually doesnt affect there build quality. for example toyota builds the yaris in france. the french have a reputation for bad build quality yet the yaris is reliable and has great bulid quality. SOME lexus models are built in america.yet lexus maintains high japanese standards. the audi (german) TT is made in hungary. but would you call audi hungarian. U ARE SO FUCKING STUPID
