Great films flop at the box office all the time, because hollywood has proven that people generally will choose stupid shit like transformers or twilight over something intellectually stimulating. @videogamenostalgia Very true. But I still think if I made a solid film I would get noticed. Scott Pilgrim was a tough subject to tackle. Not everyone would get the references and it didn't help that they gave a free prescreening at comic con where most likely most of there revenue was. Also they really did not market the film strongly. I hardly saw a commercial for it and when I did it never really gave it a fair assesment.Are you a filmmaker by chance? or just a gamer as your name suggests? :D

Typically whenever filmmakers are asked this question they usually don't really give much of an answer. Quentin essentially said to just make a good movie, but that wasn't very helpful. Guillermo just said to be protective of your work, again, not very helpful. Sam Raimi offered the best advice if you ask me, it genuinely might help someone, I'm surprised Robert kept quiet. He's usually the best person to ask about independent filmmaking.

Why argue about adverts? They ain't gonna take them away. Just get Firefox and add the Adblock Plus plug-in, activate the Easylist filter and they are gone. You get a better browser than IE and no adverts (well, very few and certainly none of the youtube ones) on ANY website. I could not browse the web without adblock with all those aNiMaTeD adverts screaming "LOOK AT ME! NOW! LOOK AT ME! NO - DON'T READ THAT WEB PAGE! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! LOOOK AAAAT MEEE!!!! Impossible.

Advertising allows me to be able to pay for internet access so I can log in to YouTube. Advertising clearly is helping YouTube "stay on the air" -- just like it does for TV and radio. The words sound different and I've never heard them confused, but maybe it's a problem in countries other than Australia. Some of the comments here are likely to add to any problems that exist and even if ironic they're out of place if people are looking for help. The sentence below is quite wrong - the word 'many' is always followed by a plural. That form should read 'You gave me so much good advice'.
