I just read a mags long term tests over a significant time of driving the 8. Many people took turns driving the car and reported on it in how it handled, accelerated, and mpg. It was always said by rotary owners that the mpg would get better over time to a point and most didnt believe this but, it started at 15.9 and increased to 17.5 in just over 1.5 years with many thousands of miles on the clock. I am ave about 20 or so now with mine. just letting you know, things are not what they seem.

From what year model did they start putting in the Sat Nav?
By: nige123. on 03 Jul 09, 21:59:45
I get what you're saying and i totally agree with you because in my RX8 i regulary get around 29 to 33 mpg on some of the back roads as well as a bit of town driving thrown in, the best i managed out of it was 40 mpg on a long motorway journey but i was only doing around 65 to 70 mph and in 6th gear but still not bad in fact my brother who own's renault clio 182 2.0ltr sport can't understand how i manage better mpg than he does in is car i just tell him it's how you drive the car haha.

Mpg is complicated and as sports cars go, it almost irrelevant. I am just a novice mechanic but, I do understand how it works and need to learn the procedures to fixing both the rotary and the piston engine and I would work on them very well. I have fixed piston engines before on other vehicles but due to time, i have not worked on cars. Mechanical engineering is something that is very simple and straight forward and I can explain it to you as it applies to mpg c0nv1ct but not in 500 characters

agreed with both you and chabbalato as well.
By: cliffkemp. on 03 Jul 09, 21:30:27
you are not getting what I am saying. I am not saying the mpg they publish is wrong, I am saying that your argument about the 2 engines and comparing them with mpg does not hold water as it pertains to engineering. they rotary doesnt use as much fuel as you are led to believe based on size compared to piston engines. You do not seem to get this and very few people do cause there are many factors to mpg and you are dismissing them for the sake of trying to LOOK right.
By: nige123. on 03 Jul 09, 19:49:20
Right let's see hmm, people who buy sports cars aren't really bothered about MPG i for one don't care, i like my cars to have the ability to handle, decent perforance and look good too and by the way what the hell you watching this video for if you don't like the RX8 and the Rotary engine? Is it because you are sad petulant freaks who can't get a girlfriend so take it out on other people. Do everyone a favour and go gas yourself with your beloved V8's.
By: chabbalato. on 03 Jul 09, 19:40:51
you're an idiot. how does one draw this conclusion? well, you clearly cant think for yourself. you're what is called an intellectual slave... you cannot understand things, so you trust impersonal entities to try and draw conclusions FOR you... that my friend, is an idiot.

aji8, if you ever had a grasp on reality, then you wouldnt be a BITTER, trolling one man show that multiple people worldwide who dont know you from a seagull, need to slap down. if your IQ is so low, that you cannot understand any given subject matter, then just *GIVE UP*! The more MONTHS you spend searching every rotary video to shit talk, the exponentially more pathetic your life gets. go run a 2 stroke engine with no oil, watch it grenade and then bitch to everyone how bad 2 stroke engine are

True what they say I guess. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I think the RX8 is an incredibly good looking car. I know when I drive mine heads turn. Especially the girls :0)

sigh You have no argument here at all. Once again your opinion is based on people's lack of mechanical knowledge = real MPG. Now I am not completely disagreeing with you but this goes for both sides of the cars. You can't take care of piston you lose MPG. You can't take care of rotary you lose MPG. So what is your point? The numbers I gave are proven from TESTS not dealer's window sticker. (Gov website is fueleconomy. g o v) Either way, those V8s I mentioned are more powerful and efficient.

Just cause you cannot use the internet, is not my problem. I have no problem looking anything I need to up. I either read a book about it or look it up on here or both to verify. Sometimes i ask someone that builds/races the engines i am finding info on. You are like talking to a tunnel vision 8 year old boo hoo
By: cliffkemp. on 02 Jul 09, 23:50:05
and you really believe the ave driver takes care of their car as they should. People fuss about changing/checking oil and spark plugs these days and get free service contracts so they dont have to fool with it. YOU MUST BE JOKING> You are not getting the mpg bit and figures. If you really think about how and engine works, you just might get it. I can teach you if you want. you can talk it over with your uncle and he can verify every bit if you want.

Rx8 is NOT a great car. Good choice on the S2000. The Rx8 first off is ugly, but if you don't mind driving a car like that I guess more power to you.
By: aji8. on 02 Jul 09, 22:05:41
How about you show us the proof since when I look it up I can't find it! It is funny that your solution to everything that you state is "look it up" but it is never found. This seems to be a common mode for you. How about you prove something for a change.
By: aji8. on 02 Jul 09, 22:03:47
Your mechanic is probably a rotard like yourself. The rotary engine is junk and that is why it is NOT used in the majority of cars on the road like the piston engine. This is fact and neither you or your moronic mechanic can dispute that.

im leaning more on purchasing a s2000 but rx-8 is a great car
By: titantricked. on 02 Jul 09, 16:42:30
Rx-8 or a S2000?
By: aido1987. on 02 Jul 09, 12:54:08
hey no worries mate. im certainly no expert, but i do love rotaries lol
By: Dudeman9339. on 02 Jul 09, 08:16:05
thank you for the more specific explanation. I forgot about the two rotors.
By: c0nv1ct1337. on 02 Jul 09, 04:01:41
Go back to my statement number 3 it should basically return you an answer without me explaining all over again. Oh and the MPG do hold water. Dodge Charger (crappy car I know but I am still strictly talking about the engine) V8 5.7L 16/25 MPG and far more HP. 'vette as I mentioned before. Hyundai Genesis 4.6 V8 17/25. Once again far more power better MPG. Should I keep going? There is also Jags and Lexus which have much heavier cars, large V8, and better gas mileages.
By: c0nv1ct1337. on 02 Jul 09, 03:52:07
Right, and your OPINION is much more valuable then those of professionals. Lets also not forget that Edmunds rated the RX8 and Mazda's least reliable car. Do I really have to look for more VALID sources? Please, stfu. While I give reliable resources you spew opinionated shit out of your mouth. Do I need to say more?
By: terminez. on 02 Jul 09, 01:04:54
well would be nice if the mazda made the rx8 engine bigger, or supercharge sow like that it would compit with the high performance cars.
By: aido1987. on 01 Jul 09, 23:57:45
it has 3 surfaces per rotor. a 13b engine has 2 rotors so it has 6 combustion 'surfaces' as you call it. each rotor displaces about 600 and something ccs. so 2 rotors equals about 1.3 litres
