So you seem to be arguing Cave's honesty... Cash was one of the most conflicted and contradictory performers around. Your argument sems to be an emotional one. The fact is Johnny Cash & Leonard Cohen have both stated they are huge fans of Nick Cave. Musically & lyrically Cave is head and shoulders above Cash & Cohen. And he also wouldn't exist without Cash doing what he did first. Cave is a screenwriter, novelist, poet... And he has lived many lives if you learn a bit about his past.

Right. Have you listened to some of the Birthday party material, the Boatman's Call, live seeds, songs like Saint Huck live? I think you have not really explored Cave at all. And, when it comes to singing he is generally much more into the song, much more energy and involvement than both Cohen and Cash who sometimes seem to have taken valium before performing. In Cohens latest album he barely bothers to sing, leaves it to others even. Cashs mercy seat sounds like he didn't read the lyrics even

Well, I can only evaluate the material based on what I see in the material -- not the performer's intentions. It's a mode of criticism that relates back to the idea of intentional fallacy (be it a song or prose work). The idea that is that the material is cut off from the performer, therefore the material cannot be judged on what the artist wants it to be, despite 'authenticity' or 'posing.' You might be interested in reading up on new criticism. And I don't mean that sarcastically.

If you dont have the chance to see the show, check out the 1978 version staring Anthony Perkins and Richard Jordan - much better then the 1998 version with Liam Neesom. It will give you a good idea about the story of Les Miz - of course, you could always read Hugo's novel. The other option is to read Wikipedia's entry on it, so you can understand the story and some of the characters.

He probably has a PR team now that has advised and coached him so speak like this when interviewing to make him more internationally acceptable(in their eyes). I remember when they used to put up sub-titles which i find totally offensive. Three things: 1)I think the phantom would have had a chance with Madame Giry. Throughout the whole film she always kind of longs for him. 2)Isn't it a bit cruel of Christine to say good-bye to the phantom, a person she loved and very long relied on, and then sing a love song to another man while floating away? I mean, they could have waited at least until they are out. 3)The film should have stopped when you see the monkey (coloured). So to speak: without the "touching" gravestone scene.

I will point out that the trend in history has been ever-increasing destructive capacity in war. Who knows if the particular balance of telecommunications, social development, national strength parities, etc. would have developed in such a way that we didn't blow the world up within a few years of the first nuclear arms?

I totally agree with your idea in general. As a fan of history though, Im sceptic of the timeline you make up. There were a great many important inventions and discoveries made between the time of the burning of the library of alexandria and the renaissance, and "principles known" does not equal with "will necessarily be applied". My whole point is : you cant work out a scenario with computers in the year 1000 "if only without christianity". Example : DaVinci's parachute, tank etc...
