I was 21 when this was made, and I also was into computers since I was 10. There had been few advances from 1976 technology and that the of computers shown here. These were just "dumb terminals" tied to a mainframe. Early GUI's were available (both Mac and Windows), but they were not used here. The COMputer CATalog (SPIN) featured microfische of mainframe printouts of collections catalogged on old mainframes. It took html to push things to the present.

you can tell by the way he was yelling that he was out of control. It is perfectly justified to assume that he could get physical. Also, since the TASER is not a lethal weapon, it can be legally deployed in an incident where no one's life is particularly in danger. If anyone knows for sure, I'd be interested in knowing. I would take issue with likening a Tazer to a Firearm. They were both developed for different reasons and are used in very different ways.

You can stop someone by shooting them in the leg, too. But is proper to do this to someone leaving the study hall/library/computer lab? also, Tazers only temporary shock you. They don't weaken you afterwards. I been Tazed. It hurts like hell while it is happening, but afterwards there is no weakness. Only the sensation that Tazing hurts and it would be great not to have it happen again. Tazing is a form of pain compliance to get someone to stop doing what their doing. The alternative is impact weapons, or joint manipulation. Both of which people have protested in the past due to the possibility of injuring.

I agree with you that 5 police officers could likely move anyone. However, had that been the case, I suspect that the reaction may have been, "Why do several police officers need to move one nerdy kid. It is excessive force." I suspect that his screaming would have made it appear that he was being hurt. Besides, from an officer's perspective, there is the prospect of administrative reviews, weapon attacks, lawsuits, etc. There is no incentive to lay hands on him if you don't have to.
